Fresh off the line, Mat is sat in the brand new Aston Martin DBX 707, which debuted just a couple of weeks ago. Under the hood of the DBX 707 lies an AMG sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that puts out, you guessed it, 707 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It drives all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The Aston tips the scales at 5,,930 lbs.

LAMBORGHINI URUS

Sitting next to the bright new DBX, we have Yianni’s brand new sinister Lamborghini Urus. How new? Well, this one only has 576 miles on the clock. Under the hood of the Urus lies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with AWD traction. The Lambo weighs in at 4894 lbs.

Mat was the first-ever journalist to get a chance to savor the Aston. Between the two SUVs, the Lambo did sound considerably better on the obligatory Carwow sound check.

Here’s a side by side comparison of the specs

THE STANDING 1/4 MILE

From the dig, despite being slightly heavier, it was the Aston that managed to clinch the lead

Soundcheck and stat check complete, both SUVs were ready for the launch. From a dig, both cars were neck and neck. However, as the speeds build, it’s the Aston that begins to slowly but steadily start to pull ahead.

In the end, the DBX 707 clinched the win, completing the standing 1/4 mile in 11.7 seconds, while the Lambo did the same distance in 12 seconds flat.

ROLLING RACES

Round One – Comfort Mode

The Aston wasn’t that quick to kick down, but once it got going, you can see how things stand at the 1/2 mile marker

Next up? We saw the guys push both SUVs from 50 mph in comfort automatic mode. While the Aston’s nine-speed auto had some lag with the kick down, once it got into the meat of the power band, it once again began to pull away from the Lambo.

By the halfway point, the DBX was already a couple of car lengths ahead, and, by the mile marker, the Aston was doing speeds in excess of 160 mph, and did I tell you how good it sounds at full chat?

Round Two-Sport Mode

So, if this is what the Aston can do to the Urus, I can’t wait to see the DBX 707 take on the Tesla Model X Plaid. Swipe up to read more.

Can the Lambo redeem itself once you switch things up a notch to sport mode? Well, the next round saw the two SUVs set to their sportiest setting and locked in third gear.
Lemme cut the chase, the Aston took this round as well and by a big margin.

BRAKE TEST

That’s no surprise as the Urus is lighter than the DBX 707 and has better carbon-ceramic brakes

The final test of the day was a full emergency brake test from 100 mph. The Urus finally had something to take home as it managed to out-brake the heavier Aston. The Lambo is also rocking some impressive brakes, to begin with, which clearly worked out in its favor. So, the Aston can go super fast, but the Lambo can stop super fast.

With the Lambo taken care of, I can’t wait to see the DBX 707 take on the Tesla Model X Plaid next. The Model X Plaid recently managed to do a sub-10 second 1/4 mile time, with a 0-60 mph time of just 2.3 seconds, much quicker than Aston’s 3.3 seconds. Watch this space.
