The U.S. president takes to Twitter to extol the North Korean leader, saying that the historic summit was a ‘first bold step toward a bright new future’ ■ North Korean state media claims Trump committed to lifting sanctions

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un accepted mutual invitations to visit each other’s countries at the Singapore summit, North Korean news agency KCNA reported on Wednesday.

“Kim Jong Un invited Trump to visit Pyongyang at a convenient time and Trump invited Kim Jong Un to visit the US,” the news agency wrote.

“The two top leaders gladly accepted each other’s invitation, convinced that it would serve as another important occasion for improved DPRK-US relations.”

The report also claimed Trump had agreed to lift sanctions against the North in addition to providing security guarantees in the summit. Trump was cited by North Korea’s official KCNA news agency as saying he made the promise after pledging to end joint military exercises with South Korea. There was no immediate comment about sanctions from the U.S. side.

Trump later extolled the North Korea leader on Twitter, writing that “there is no limit to what NoKo can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce & engagement w/ the world. Chairman Kim has before him the opportunity to be remembered as the leader who ushered in a glorious new era of security & prosperity for his citizens!”
