The 74th annual Tony Awards, which will take place on Sunday, June 7 at Radio City Music Hall and broadcast as usual on CBS, have been postponed and will be changed later, it announced Wednesday.
“The health and safety of the Broadway community of artists and fans is of paramount importance to us,” says a statement from the American Wing Theater, which presents the Tony Awards with the Broadway Association. “We look forward to celebrating Broadway and our industry when it is safe to do so.”
Broadway itself ended on March 12, as the coronavirus epidemic forced people indoors and stressed the importance of social distancing. As a by-product, at least two productions – a revival of Edward Albee’s scared Virginia Wolf, starring Laurie Metcalf and Rupert Everett, as well as game players Martin McDonagh, who were trapped in front of their official openings.
