His message? It\u2019s too early to tell.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest hawk-processed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" data-widget-id=\"3bc52c9a-6ed6-470c-9e9c-509ff8ca4d7f\" data-result=\"missing\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI have to explain this every year,\u201d Bosworth began in a now-expired post on Instagram Stories, captured by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/meta-cto-report-quest-pro-cancelled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/meta-cto-report-quest-pro-cancelled\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">Road to VR<\/a>. \u201cThere is no Quest Pro 2 headset until we decide there is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I mean by that is there are lots of prototype headsets \u2014 lots of them \u2014 all in development in parallel. Some of them, we say, \u2018That\u2019s not the right one,\u2019 and we shut it down. Some of them, we say, \u2018That\u2019s the right one,\u2019 and we spin it up. What you need to understand is, until it goes out the door, it doesn\u2019t get the name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounds an awful lot like semantics, which doesn\u2019t necessarily go against the thrust of The Information\u2019s story. And the next line isn\u2019t exactly a ringing endorsement of the line\u2019s future either: \u201cThere might be a Quest Pro 2, there might not be. I\u2019m not really telling you, but I will say don\u2019t believe everything you read about what\u2019s been stopped or started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded the post by implying that The Information\u2019s source might be a disgruntled employee upset that their particular VR project won\u2019t be pursued. \u201cA lot of times it comes from someone who\u2019s unhappy their particular project got cut when there are other projects that did not get cut,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a-non-denial-but-hope-for-meta\">A non-denial, but hope for Meta<\/h2>\n<p>That\u2019s not exactly a ringing endorsement for the Meta Quest Pro\u2019s future, but then things haven&#8217;t looked great for Meta&#8217;s high-end headset for some time.<\/p>\n<p>Bluntly, you don\u2019t\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/news\/quest-2-quest-pro-get-huge-price-drops-as-meta-eyes-apple-vr\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">slash a third off the MSRP of a product after just 129 days<\/a>\u00a0if it\u2019s selling brilliantly. Even at $999, it\u2019s a tough ask during a cost-of-living crisis, so it\u2019s hard to believe its fortunes have been transformed in the last four months. In short, it would be bizarre if Meta were pushing Quest Pro development hard, given the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>But there is hope, and oddly it comes from a rival: Apple. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/apple-vision-pro\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">Vision Pro<\/a>\u00a0not only makes the Meta Quest Pro look like a bargain with its $3,500 price tag, but Apple is one of the few companies on the planet that can spark interest in a product category just by entering the market.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, if Apple creates a buzz around mixed reality then it could yet be Meta that benefits as consumers adopt a more wallet-friendly Pro vision of the metaverse.
