The Department of Health (DOH) recently identified a case of COVID-19 in a fully vaccinated Hawai‘i healthcare worker.

The DOH says the case was associated with recent travel to the mainland.

The worker received two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, following proper guidelines, and completed the series in early January of this year. They then traveled to multiple cities on the mainland U.S. one month later.

“Pre-travel testing was performed for the individual and a travel companion in preparation for returning to Hawai‘i. Results were received after the travelers arrived back in Hawai’i; both individuals tested positive,” DOH stated.

Neither of the two developed symptoms, and DOH says there wasn’t any transmission of the virus to close contacts.
