85 infants under age 1 have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nueces County, Texas.

“These babies have not even had their first birthday yet. Please help us stop the spread of this disease,” said Annette Rodriguez, director of public health for Corpus Christi Nueces County.

Texas is among states being hit hardest by a resurgence of new COVID-19 cases across the U.S.

Nationally, new cases increased 19.7% from last week and the national death count rose 19%, according to a Federal Emergency Management Agency memo obtained and reported by ABC News.

The memo adds that 19% of all U.S. medical facilities have more than 80% of their ICU beds filled.

The number of patients on ventilators is also on the rise. The memo obtained by ABC says 32% of ventilators in use are by COVID-19 patients.

28 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico have issued face mask mandates to help fight COVID-19, according to an ABC News analysis.

The United Nations Secretary-General is warning countries of COVID-19’s impact on the economy, poverty and wealth inequality.

“Entire regions that were making progress on eradicating poverty and narrowing inequality have been set back years in a matter of months,” said Secretary-General António Guterres.

Guterres said the deep global recession brought by the pandemic could push 100 million more people into extreme poverty.
