Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts have met over the 2023 presidential ticket.

Atiku hosted the meeting, which was held Monday night in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed attended.

After the parley, Atiku disclosed that they deliberated on the future of the PDP and the country.

“I had a meeting tonight with Saraki, Tambuwal, Bala and Hayatudden to discuss the future of our party and Nigeria. I look forward to continuing our dialogue and building #OneNigeria”, a Facebook post reads.

Saraki, a former Kwara Governor, also commented on the gathering via social media.

“We visited former Vice President Alhaji @Atiku Abubakar to consult with him on our ongoing discussions about consensus building in our great party, @OfficialPDPNig”, he tweeted.

It was gathered that Atiku is seeking to receive the endorsement of the trio and other aspirants to become the standard bearer.

The PDP is working to produce a consensus candidate before the presidential primary expected to hold in the middle of the year.

DAILY POST earlier reported that the 2023 race to Aso Villa will have All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Bola Tinubu and Atiku as the major contenders.

The former Lagos Governor and the Wazirin Adamawa are the strongest contenders in terms of political connections, support base and financial capacity.

Earlier on Monday, Saraki, Tambuwal and Mohammed held talks with Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom in Makurdi.

Last week, they met in Abuja, days after their convergence in Bauchi for consultations on who will emerge as PDP’s flagbearer.

Meanwhile, Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike has announced that he would withdraw from the PDP presidential contest if the ticket is zoned to the North.

While inaugurating the zoning committee, national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu confirmed that the party would zone political offices.

The 37-member team is expected to submit its report this week at the secretariat.
