The City Group is reportedly preparing to offer a monster contract to sign Lionel Messi. The Argentinian submitted an official transfer request at FC Barcelona last week and his future with the Spanish giants is in serious doubt. The City Group is leading the chase for Messi should he really leave Barcelona this summer and the investment company has major plans for Messi if he signs a multi-year contract with their group.
He will start off at Manchester City, signing a three-year deal with the Citizens as the English giants are aiming Champions League success. He will then be moving to Major League Soccer side New York City FC and play for the American side for the final two seasons of his career. The total worth of the contract is thought to be around €750m.
Messi will be earning around €100m – before tax – at Manchester City and another €100m per season at New York. When he completes his move from England to the United States he will then receive a massive €250m signing bonus to complete the €750m contract. City now has to wait how the contract dispute between Messi and Barcelona will play out.
The forward believes that he is able to leave the club on a free transfer following a clause in his contract. Barcelona are certain that the contract has expired and demand interested clubs to pay Messi’s €700m release clause. In the meantime the Spanish LaLiga have backed Barcelona’s claim that the release clause in Messi’s contract is still valid.
