With the governorship elections just less than two months away, 16 out of the 25 governorship candidates of political parties in Cross River State have adopted the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator John Owan-Enoh, as their consensus candidate for the governorship election.
John Owan-Enoh currently represents Cross River Central constituency in the Nigerian Senate.
The governorship candidates came out on the platform of Coalition of Owan Friends of Political Parties And Groups (COFOPPAG) in Calabar, the state capital.
They said they will move their supporters and votes to Owan-Enoh.
Chairman of the coalition, Charles Okoi said their decision to adopt Owan-Enoh as a consensus candidate was the most experienced, tested and proven politician amongst other candidates.
Okoi noted that Enoh has the capacity to galvanise the desired impact on Cross River State.
“We feel that our state, Cross River has been brought down through many dramas and lies of the incumbent. We have agreed to work for and support Owan-Enoh to emerge as governor,” Okoi said.
“Our intention is to pull all forces and votes to the APC.”
APC governorship candidate, Owan-Enoh, said he was humbled by the unanimous adoption to set aside their personal ambition for the larger interest of the state.
He promised not to disappoint the parties and their candidates.
Senator Owan-Enoh remains the major opposition to the incumbent governor Ben Ayade, who seeks a return to the State House on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
